Description

Waltham Clock Company Colonial No. 914.

Random Fact: This bad boy was going for $560 in 1915, which is the equivalent of $14,000 today!

More random facts- Waltham Clock Company came to prominence (globally) because they developed weighted regulator clocks so accurate they were used to determine how accurate other clocks were.

Last Random Fact- Waltham Clock Company is NOT Waltham Watch Company, but was acquired after William Henry died. It was a company that struggled to keep afloat from its inception and was absorbed by a competitor because the Clock Company's regulator technology was so well-regarded.

Not only is this a rare and well made clock, it's also in great condition... and MASSIVE at roughly 95" tall. You're going to need help with this one.

The movement cabinet looks to come off the pendulum cabinet, but I don't know enough about these to tell you how to do that kind of surgery. Do your homework if you're bidding to win it because this is a beautiful piece of American history.

"Tall clock offerings increased for the firm during the first decade of the 20th century, dozens of case styles were being offered with several optional movements. By 1915, their top-end quarter-striking movement with three different chime selections played on nine tabular bells, a moon dial and solid mahogany colonial style case could be purchased for $560 retail.

"Waltham Clock Co. continued until the death of William Henry in January, 1913. Subsequently, John Stark and Thomas Shepherd purchased his interest in the firm."
